Are you looking for some activities to fill out your summer calendar with? The Lake District is one destination that certainly isn’t short of things to see, do and explore. There’s over 885 square miles of space, so you can trust us when we say you can’t go wrong with either a day trip or an extended break to the Lakes this summer.

Whilst we know it can be a bit tricky to plan an excursion in the great outdoors in the UK, our country may be ‘Great’, but it’s not exactly renowned for its blazing sunshine all summer long. You might have heard that Cumbria and the Lakes had a bit of a tough time over Christmas, with parts of it being devastated by flooding – but it’s getting back on its feet now ready for the summer and ready for the summer trade. Take a look at these top summer activities to take part in in the Lake District this year!

Guided Walks/ Cycle Rides

With over 3,000 km of rights of way; walk cycle and ride around the countryside to your hearts consent. There are plenty of guided walks and cycle rides to take upon either by yourself or with a tour guide. Pick up a map at local tourist information centres, choose a route and get going. One of our personal favourites is Derwentwater, see if you can find the giant hands and take a snap!

Beatrix Potter

2016 marks Beatrix Potter’s 150th birthday! And in the spirit of this, The World of Beatrix Potter which is based in the Lakes is holding a few very special events over the summer for one of the world’s best-loved children’s authors, capturing our imagination for over 100 years. Enjoy breakfast or afternoon tea with Peter Rabbit, and take part in trails and walks and learn more about the woman behind these fantastic tales!
