I recently had the pleasure of receiving some products that will be sold in Aldi this September as part of their outdoor clothing and accessories range known as the Specialbuys Outdoor range. I was sent the waterproof trousers, a waterproof jacket and pavement pounder shoes.
Being a big lover of all things outdoor, I really got quite excited at the prospect of trying these things out. I was already planning on going to the local lake for a spot of fishing the week these arrived, so that seemed like a good time to try the waterproofs and the shoes. I tend to do a lot of stuff outdoors, so already had a couple of runs planned for that week, so took the opportunity to try the jogging trousers on those occasions.
I must admit that although I have shopped at Aldi for groceries and other things, I’ve always been a little sceptical when it comes to their non-food products, particularly the ones that claim to be great for outdoor activities. I guess the reality is that it is actually no different from getting your shopping and some clothing from Tesco, Sainsbury’s or ASDA.
I would actually encourage people who are on the lookout for really good quality, but reasonably inexpensive (compared to some high street brands and shops) outdoor clothes, to avoid turning their noses up at Aldi’s range and give the products a try.
In all honesty, I thought that the pair of waterproof trousers I was sent from the range, were one of the most comfortable pair of waterproofs I have ever worn (and I have worn quite a few from different brands and shops, over the years) and even though it was mostly a dry day when I went fishing, I got caught in a small shower on the walk back home, but didn’t feel a thing. I would be very confident wearing them in heavier rainfall.
The shoes were amazing, considering the price, and I have even found that I continue to wear them even after coming home, around the house, because they are so comfortable and snug. Not only did they fit like a glove, but I can tell by looking at them and feeling them that they have been made to a very high standard with some good quality materials.
The jacket is also really good. I think this will become my biking jacket as it is thin and I don’t want to wear anything to big when I am out on my bike. Its small enough to fold up into my bag or to keep in the car for if I go for an unexpected walk then I will always have this one in the boot.
So, I wholeheartedly encourage anyone who is looking for reasonably affordable outdoor gear that is made to a high quality with great materials, to head down to Aldi. A word of warning though, as with any Aldi special offers, there is only a limited amount of stock on these items, so once they are gone for good – so make sure you get down to your nearest store ASAP! The range is available from the 11th of September.
