A rough guide to Keswick

A rough guide to Keswick

They say that life was simple back in the olden days and that I would want to believe each time I think of Keswick. If you’re looking for a town that will bring you memories of the past as you ponder on your future, then this is the best place for you. It’s going to be so easy to reflect on your life and just think about your next move or your goals sitting by the meadows of its hilltop that simply shouts serenity.

I’m not a big fan of the countryside but it doesn’t hurt to once in a while get a taste of it just to calm my nerves from all the work that the busy city life is bringing me.  Keswick is small but I would prefer the phrase “short and sweet”. I don’t think it will take you a day to roam around it. A short trip and the next thing you know, you have been in every places that Keswick has to offer.

Since I’m a big fan of the city life, shopping is flowing in my bloodstream. I don’t know about you but I think the mall is pretty much my refuge each time I want to take a time off from work. But not when I’m in this town though, I don’t need to be in a mall just to be relaxed. Why? Because its known Market Place is already calming enough! Shops are everywhere and I don’t even need to worry about where I’m going to lay my head at night because of their amazing hotels.

One of the things that you’ll noticed coming here is their famous Moot Hall. All the information about this town is in this foundation. Contrary to popular belief that the countryside is boring, well I beg to disagree! There are so many places to see and things to do in Keswick.

They have public parks and open spaces for games. And although I’m a big city life fanatic, I have to say that I love the idea of a garden. The whole white picket fenced cinematic picture or simply a garden made up on my rooftop can really make me giggle and just be happy. Having said that, Keswick has definitely yanked my heart with its garden that will make you realize how awesome it is to be alive.

This town is definitely bursting with culture and arts. Here you’ll find museums, galleries, movie houses and my personal favorite- the Theatre by the Lake. I suggest that you’ll go here with someone because the ambiance could get a little lonely if you’re alone unless you are into the whole I-just-wanna-be-alone idea, then this place could work too.

It’s very unlikely that visitors of this town don’t get to experience the trip to the lakeshore, which is actually the highlight for me (aside from the shopping of course). About five minutes of walking by the lakeshore, you’ll notice that your feet were now sent to see the amazing views from the Friar’s Crag overlooking the lake and Borrowdale. And if you want a more adventurous activity, I say you go try on their wall climbing! Safer and less stressful than climbing a mountain yet you’ll still have fun!

Another reason to come to Keswick is its 4000 year old stone circle located on the hilltop of Castlerigg. That site will completely astound you as get to see the view of Keswick like no other.

There are other fun activities that you can do here this especially if you’re up for some leisure stuff. That’s right, there are pools that you could take a dip at (I just have to warn you about the freezing temperature of the water), plus you could as well enjoy bowling and tennis! Remember I told you that it’s best to have a companion coming here? Then these activities will prove my point.

Keswick has been here since 1240 and its name means “cheese farm”. It has always been known for being a market place since 1276. I wonder what kind of materials were they selling during those times. Swords for warriors and corsets for maidens, just a thought. Coming here is like witnessing how the medieval years cope up with consumerism and barter deals.  Ready?
